We were blown away when we first heard that Bing was offering $200 worth of free ad credit just to sign up as a new advertiser to try their service. This is how it works. Kevin Lee and Catherine Seda, two search engine marketing experts, have written a well received book on Search Engine Marketing. In the back of this book, Search Engine Advertising, there is a promotional code that can be redeemed on Kevin Lee’s website. The deal is, you must purchase this book to receive your promotional code. We called our local Barnes & Noble and had them hold us a copy. Once we purchased the book the promotional code was in the back as explained.

When you take the promotional code from the back of the book you’ll head over to a page on Kevin’s site where you will fill out a short form requesting information such as first and last name, company name, title, email, website url, and whether or not you already do search engine marketing. Once this email is sent off you’ll receive a return email within a couple days. As a side note we received our return email in a little over 24 hrs. So in other words, if you needed to check six separate pages, the 6th page would have to wait until an hour had passed.

To remove the limitation they offer a Gold Account where you pay $4.95 for unlimited use of the tool and full access to all of their other tools.

Search Engine Optimising has a informative checker that will display some very useful information. What we noticed about this tool is that they will offer a brief suggestion as to what might need to be done to correct the link problem. In addition to the suggestion they will provide the link error code and whether or not the link was properly checked due to robots exclusion rules. They also allow for manual checking of those links that were not checked. At this time this seems to be the most useful of the tools given the organized information that is displayed.

Audacity is a powerful free audio editor and audio recording software program that is recommended by many online business professionals. If your looking to record audio, mix sounds and tracks together, or edit your live audio, Audacity can help.

Audacity provides a user-friendly interface with which to record and edit your audio. Within about 10 minutes of opening the program we had a fully edited and compressed audio track. For our purposes we felt that importing an audio track, recording my voice, and merging the tracks would be a good test of the usability and functionality of the software. After reading through the help menu for about 5 minutes we were off and running. I began by adding an mp3 audio track that I found over at Incomepetech. Incompetech is a royalty free music website where you can search through hundreds of free music tracks.

After the audio mp3 file was added I edited the length of the track to something reasonable for my message. I then edited the music track so that it would fade in and fade out based on my recorded audio message. Once these two tracks were finished I saved the tracks as a single mp3 file and the process was done. What we like the most was the interface which made it very easy to perform this task.

You’ll see that the software has many more features that can be utilized such as:

• Recording from multiple sources
• Adding audio effects such as echo and wahwah
• Altering of frequencies such as bass and treble
• Volume level monitoring
• And much more…

Audacity 1.2.6 is the download version that is fully functional. At this time they are working on a new version of the software that will provide additional features. Until then the 1.2.6 version should get the job done for you.
