Free Site Status- Free Site Status also offers free web monitoring and will monitor every 60 minutes for free accounts.  This service does provide historical performance statistics reporting for up to 60 days.  One of the downsides of this particular free services is that there is no RSS alerts and only one email contact allowed.

Site 24×7 – With this services free account you are allowed up to 2 monitoring setups.  Checks are run every 60 minutes and you’ll have access to their web page content check.  You’ll be able to setup you account for email notification life many of the other services in this industry.  Compared to some of the other services listed, this service is a bit bare when it comes to free features offered.

InternetSeer – The free service option will allow up to 24 checks which of course boils down to 60 minute intervals between checks.  This company has been around since 2000 and is currently monitoring over 1.3 million websites.  You’ll never be charged for the number of contacts as this is an unlimited feature of the service.  Choose up to 3 alerts types which include text, email, and pager alerting.

Service Uptime – Service Uptime is one of the more meatier programs in terms of free features offered.  You’ll get 30 minute interval checking and lifetime statistics.  They offer the ability to receive email or SMS alerts which are alerts via your mobile phone.  The company has been doing business since 2004.  They have 10 different  monitoring locations.

Site Uptime – Choose from either 30/60 minute interval checking.  You can select when to be alerted of your sites failure.  Many time your site will only be down for just a short period of time and there would be no need to be alerted if you site were back up and running moments later.  Adjust these setting to your liking.  Site Uptime has 4 monitoring locations.

Pingdom – Pingdom offers a bunch of additional items that provide tremendous free value.  Where many free services do not offer error analysis, this service will allow you to see error reports that will help in determine what the problem is.  You’ll be allowed 20 SMS alerts.  They offer a free iPhone download app that will allow you to monitor your account using your mobile phone.  In addition to this they also offer a desktop notifier that will discreetly monitor you website and give alerts right on your screen.  Become a member of the world-wide GIGRIB network and submit up to 10 different sites for free public monitoring.

Monitis – Monitis is another free service that will allow website monitoring.  This service goes a bit further and has capability to monitor traffic statistics as well such as unique visitor information.  The service allows for email, SMS, RSS, and IM message alerts.  They offer different widgets for different systems including Mac users.

Watch Mouse – This service has been around since 2002.  They offer free website monitoring with 20 minute intervals for the free account.  This is one of the lowest interval times of all of the free services listed.  One of the drawbacks is that the service only allows 2 SMS alerts per month.
