5 Useful Free Online Broken Links Checkers
Broken links are just one of those annoying realities that any online business has to deal with. A bad link can often reflect back on the website owner as the perception of a poorly managed site. As a site grows it becomes harder and harder to stay on top of all broken links.
This is why a broken links checker is a valuable tool for any online business. These free online broken links checkers quickly and easily scan a page and analyze the links on that page. The following are 5 absolutely free resources to consider for your damaged links checking routine:
Webmaster Toolkit
Webmaster toolkit has a useful online broken links checker that quickly does the job of scanning the page you specify. After loading it will bring back a list of up to 60 outbound links that have been checked with either success of failure. One of the drawbacks is that the checker is limited to 60 outbound links. They advise they are trying to save server time-outs.
Dead-Links.com
Dead-links.com has a broken links checker tool that will display the information as it is happening. As the tool crawls internal links and check external links it provides an update of the process. Initially it can be a bit confusing as to what your looking at but the report section at the bottom is the area to put the most attention.
iWeb Tools
iWeb Tools checker is very straight forward. If your links are good they list a check. If the links are bad you’ll see an X along with the link that brought back the bad response. There does not seem to be a limit on the number of links the tool will check. iWeb Tools only allows 5 checks per hour. So in other words, if you needed to check six separate pages, the 6th page would have to wait until an hour had passed.
To remove the limitation they offer a Gold Account where you pay $4.95 for unlimited use of the tool and full access to all of their other tools.
Search Engine Optimising
Search Engine Optimising has a informative checker that will display some very useful information. What we noticed about this tool is that they will offer a brief suggestion as to what might need to be done to correct the link problem. In addition to the suggestion they will provide the link error code and whether or not the link was properly checked due to robots exclusion rules. They also allow for manual checking of those links that were not checked. At this time this seems to be the most useful of the tools given the organized information that is displayed.
Submit Express
Submit Express has a quick and easy checker that will simply display all links on a particular page and display whether or not the link worked. You’ll see a check if it did and a red exclamation if it didn’t. The tool does what it was designed to do so what more could we ask for.
