ScreenToaster Free Screen Capture Software Tool

I’m not really sure how it’s done but ScreenToaster has a free screen capture software tool that allows you to record video, audio, and webcam video all from their own website.  This service is absolutely free and will not even cost you the storage space on your computer.

Now, I’m no expert on screen capture software and haven’t really been using these types of tools that long so I was kind of excited about the idea of not having to bog down my computer by installing another piece of software.  I was also surprised to find out, through using the application, that the service runs as fast as some of the free screen capture tools I have downloaded to my computer.

ScreenToaster is compatible with the following systems: Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OS X and Linux

They will ask you to create an account if you would like to publish your videos.  Registering will cost you nothing as well accept the time to do it.  You may still be able to test-drive the tool without going through the registration process.

What I Like About This Tool

• Extreme ease of use as your greeted by a large record button as soon as you hit the home page
• From the look and feel of the site it seems to be updated regularly and actively maintained
• The ability to quickly upload a video straight to YouTube
• I’m a big fan of the 5 second countdown feature before recording…I’m easy to please

Things That May Need Some Improvement

For me the biggest frustration with using this tool was trying to make use of the .mov file format which is the file type for saving the files to your computer.  For the life of me I couldn’t find a decent .mov file converter that would successfully convert this file to something I could upload to my editing software (Windows Movie Maker).  After about 5 failed attempts at this I basically threw up my hands and just uploaded the video straight to YouTube (much easier).
